Why so expensive?

I love this game. Its so addicting. I even got my mom hooked on it but, why is everything so expensive? All the other destinations in the map (Frozen Shadows, Blazing Sands) cost more diamonds than I can make if I played for a whole week straight. Also, why are the characters so ugly? Except Bruce Lee but he costs real money. And why do the chests come like at hundred game intervals? It annoys me that when I do finally get a chest its always an artifact I already have.
